PUTERI GUNUNG LEDANG
Based on the movie I have watched which is Puteri Gunung Ledang directed by Saw Tiong Hin in 2004, I have to be frank that the movie is boring and hard to be understand even though I am good in Malay but the "bahasa", aduh..so deep. But anyhow I still managed to TRY my very best to force myself watching the whole entire movie. One of the reason why I don't really watch movie regarding "cerita dongeng" is because all these history somehow not exactly true. Add on, there are even supernatural kind of power like Majapahit can fly, Laksamana Tuah can fly then getting into the other world and fight with each other, it is a little too exaggerated.
Moving on to the first question, from the idioms (peribahasa) I get from the movie, most probably is "Siapa cepat dia dapat" where the father of a daughter who will be forced to marry, used the term while he is selling something. The idiom means, first come first serve. In real life, we use this term when there is a great opportunity open for people or crowd. Example in MMC class, the Bingo quiz, who gets to raise their hand first, get to answer the question and earn the point.
The second question, the item gifted by Sultan to Raja Ahmad is a Royal Keris that actually symbolise the coronation with the blessing from Sultan.
Next, the name of Hang Tuah's keris is Keris Taming Sari which is also a very famous keris that brings a meaning of loyalty towards the Sultan. Laksamana Tuah asked Bendahara to return his clothing and tanjak as what I watched from the movie of Puteri Gunung Ledang is because he claims that himself "tidak dapat melaksanakan tugas dengan baik". Therefore, he return those things including his keris to the Sultan.
From what I have seen in the movie, my best guess towards the conflict between Majapahit and Demak is the division of power in ruling a village and Demak also offered Majapahit that he wanted to protect the safety of Majapahit but that seems to be one of the reason why Majapahit got angry and rejected Demak's offer and caused Demak attacking one of the village. If I were to bring out a similarities of the conflict between Majapahit and Demak with the conflict which is still happening present time in Malaysia, it would be like the previous GE13 where Lim Guan Eng gets to rule Penang, the party of Barisan Nasional was trying to bring him down by relating Lim Guan Eng with issue that makes no sense such as bribing and cheating on citizen's money that allowed Lim Guan Eng buying a bungalow. I am not sure but that's the issue I can relate to.
Two out the the seven Gusti Putri's condition are building a bridge by pure gold all the way from Melaka to Gunung Ledang and a bowl of blood from Sultan Melaka's son who is the Raja Muda. The curse of Gusti Putri is the peace and safety Sultan Melaka's citizens.
The filming location for Puteri Gunung Ledang was at Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia. I hope I am a true Malaysian in abled to answer this question. LOL.
In the scene where Gusti Putri said, "saya ingin Merdeka", the Merdeka meant as freedom, she wants her freedom in making her decision to be with who she loves and not by forcing. As the meaning of Merdeka in Malaysia now, I guess it means freedom from war and living in a peaceful environment is what we want. Three main races living together respecting each and every cultures and believes, no criticism towards other races or religions.
The story between Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat is that they are both best friends and it is something like 5 musketeers but Hang Tuah is the leader and Hang Jebat comes after Hang Tuah. Hang Jebat and Hang Tuah has this conflict in between where Hang Jebat fall in love with a lady and that caused Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat fought. This can be relate to the question 10 where tension of loyalty takes place because Hang Jebat was appointed by Sultan to takes Hang Tuah's life because of getting betrayed by someone. However, as time goes by, Hang Jebat was found stealing the most powerful keris and having an affair with a lady which Hang Tuah went into a house, (from what I have watched from television TV2 back then when I was 10) Hang Tuah fought with a normal keris and defeated Hang Jebat as Hang Jebat wasn't loyal in friendship and going against the law.
Tun Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad used to be loyal and a leader of UMNO. However, in the recent issue, Tun Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad has been considered betrayed (in my opinion) as he is the current person who is leading the opposition party, it is like spitting his phlegm and licking it back after so many years because he feels unsatisfied with how Dato' Sri Najib is ruling the country with all the issues which has been happening throughout these years, scandal, murdering (rumours) etc. The second example is relevant to the first point which Dato' Sri Najib should ensure the citizens to live a better life and has no economic issue. However, with all the debts and issues he has caused it makes citizens life harder than it seems to be right now. Nothing has changed, to me it confused me it's like he has been questioning himself every night, "Should I be loyal in serving my country or should I be loyal to my wife?"
Puteri Gunung Ledang is a film which you can gain a lot of knowledge about history, of course it is an extraordinary film as a total of USD$4 million cost of production has been spent into making this film, might as well just watch it to know more about the beauty of Malaysian's history where our people can fly and fight way better than the Avengers. Obviously, that's just a joke, just trying to be a little entertaining like the documentary of The Big Durian directed by Amir Muhammad. But honestly, there's always a reason behind everything, Puteri Gunung Ledang won a total of 5 awards at the Malaysian Film Festival 2004 and it actually shows that how loyalty takes place and how hard an individual is to obey to the Sultan back in the days. In short, loyalty is everything back then and in this Puteri Gunung Ledang film it shows us how Hang Tuah can actually cope with everything. For someone who in love with the historical movies which also involves a little war kind of movies, this is a movie that they can go for, as a true Malaysian.
